Dear 99 Percenters …

Dear 99 Percenters,

Congratulations on getting so many Americans (and now the world) behind your cause. Just one question, I am still a little unclear of what you really want.

I totally get what you are against (Wall Street, the rich, the excessive bonuses, corruption, and I am pretty sure, Capitalism) and don’t get me wrong, it’s amazing that so many people are behind a cause of any kind, but shouldn’t it be more clear what your overall goal is … what exactly are you trying to accomplish?

In my search for answers to this question, I am finding many extremely passionate and profound quotes such as, “Tonight we are coming together in Times Square to show the world that the power of the people is an unstoppable force of global change. Today, we are fighting back against the dictators of our country – the Wall Street banks – and we are winning”.

“Unstoppable force of global change!” … wow, that’s awesome! But again, I ask, what change are we talking about here? Winning what exactly?

I even looked on Facebook for answers and found the Occupy Wall Street Page whose tagline reads “Raising awareness and taking action — Now!”That’s great! But wait, awareness of what? …  Seriously, what am I missing?

I am all about doing what’s right and fighting for causes that I believe in, which brings me to an interesting fact that has always resonated with me that you may find helpful … Mother Teresa never attended an anti-war rally, but she would always lend her support to a peace rally. She realized that putting your energy behind something that you are “for” is far better than rallying behind something you are “against”.

With that being said, can someone please tell me what you are “for”, and maybe I can get behind it too.

Thanks!
Traci

Hey Bill! Thanks for sharing this. To be honest, I was kind of hesitant to write this today, because I thought, am I seriously missing something obvious that someone is going to point out to within 30 seconds of me posting this … but after watching this video, talking to people today, and the fact that almost 100 people have read this post today and no one has commented with an answer, it guess it might have be worth writing about. Happy travels! I am loving your blog! Cheers, Traci

I’m not 100% sure but when you find out can you let me know too? When I watched the documentary “Inside Job” I was pretty infuriated with the American government. How could they ALLOW something like that to happen with no punishment? What happened to millions of Americans is criminal. I’m a homeowner, I have student loan debt. I am (so far, and knock on wood) one of the people that can afford my debt. I don’t expect anybody to pay it back for me but me. But maybe I’m one of the lucky few that chose a profession that I can just walk back into. I don’t know. I have a friend that is a a single mother of two (bless her) and she is a waitress. She is one of the protesters in the Seattle Occupy Wall Street. She’s not a homeowner, she doesn’t have student debt. Yet I’m not sure what she’s protesting against. I’m not sure how she is being treated unfairly. I’m a tad confused as you are. Thanks for opening up the dialogue!

You’re most welcome. It just seems like such a waste if someone doesn’t clearly come forward and declare what they want. I mean, when was the last time you saw so many Americans coming together for a movement … it’s amazing and there is so much power that comes from a collective effort. Just don’t waste that power by missing one small minor detail … what is your goal? Hopefully someone will tell us soon.
